Zora Neale Hurston Books in Order

Zora Neale Hurston is a celebrated American folklorist and author, renowned for her pivotal role in the Harlem Renaissance. As a leader of the literary movement in Harlem, she co-founded the short-lived magazine Fire!! alongside Langston Hughes and Wallace Thurman, catapulting the movement to the forefront. Hurston's ethnographic training at Barnard College enabled her to capture the essence of African American folklore in her critically acclaimed works, including Mules and Men and the enduring novel Their Eyes Were Watching God. Her groundbreaking research in Haiti, facilitated by a Guggenheim Fellowship, exposed the secrets of conjure and Vodun trance, shedding light on the mysteries of these secret societies. A journalist and chronicler, Hurston also investigated the Ruby McCollum murder trial, her work published in the Pittsburgh Courier, and contributed to Woman in the Suwanee County Jail, a book by William Bradford Huie.
