William S. Burroughs is a celebrated American novelist, short story writer, essayist, painter, and spoken word performer, renowned for his pivotal role in the Beat Generation and postmodernist literature. As a culturally influential and innovative artist, he is regarded as one of the most politically trenchant figures of the 20th century.
