Warsan Shire Books in Order
Warsan Shire is a dynamic Kenyan-born Somali poet, writer, and educator based in London. Born in 1988, she has established herself as a prominent voice in the literary world through extensive readings across Britain and internationally, including recent appearances in South Africa, Italy, Germany, Canada, North America, and Kenya. Her debut book, 'TEACHING MY MOTHER HOW TO GIVE BIRTH' (flipped eye), was published in 2011. Her poetry has been featured in renowned publications such as Wasafiri, Magma, and Poetry Review, and in the anthology 'The Salt Book of Younger Poets' (Salt, 2011). As the current poetry editor at SPOOK magazine, she continues to nurture emerging talent. Warsan also represented Somalia at the Poetry Parnassus in 2012, a festival of world poets at the Southbank, London. Her Complete Works II poet status solidifies her place in the literary community, and her work has been translated into Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese. Additionally, Warsan is the unanimous winner of the 2013 Inaugural Brunel University African Poetry Prize.
