Walter Satterthwait is a masterful author of mysteries and historical fiction. A lifelong aficionado of mystery novels, he was deeply influenced by the works of Dashiell Hammett and Mickey Spillane during his high school years. As a bartender in 1970s New York, he began writing his first book, the adventure novel Cocaine Blues (1979), about a drug dealer on the run from a pair of relentless killers.
