Walter Satterthwait is a masterful author of mysteries and historical fiction. A lifelong aficionado of mystery novels, he was deeply influenced by the works of Dashiell Hammett and Mickey Spillane during his high school years. As a bartender in 1970s New York, he began writing his first book, the adventure novel Cocaine Blues (1979), about a drug dealer on the run from a pair of relentless killers. He solidified his reputation with The Aegean Affair (1982), a gripping thriller that introduced his signature blend of suspense and intrigue. Satterthwait's most iconic character, Santa Fe private detective Joshua Croft, emerged in the late 1980s, with the release of Wall of Glass (1988).
