Tsitsi Dangarembga is a Zimbabwean writer and filmmaker, whose multifaceted career spans both the written and cinematic arts. Born in a country that would soon transition to black-majority rule, Dangarembga spent her formative years in England, before returning to Zimbabwe to complete her education. She studied medicine at Cambridge University, but ultimately pursued a degree in psychology at the University of Zimbabwe, where she also honed her creative skills as a member of the university's drama group. Dangarembga's early writing experience led to the production of numerous plays, including <i>The Lost of the Soil</i> and <i>Katshaa</i>, and the publication of short stories and plays, such as <i>The Letter</i> and <i>She Does Not Weep</i>. Her breakthrough novel, <i>Nervous Conditions</i>, was a critical success, winning the African section of the Commonwealth Writers Prize in 1989 and marking her as a trailblazing voice in Zimbabwean literature.
