Tracy Letts is a celebrated American playwright and actor. As a recipient of the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, he is recognized for his powerful play August: Osage County. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to acclaimed author Billie Letts and college professor and actor Dennis Letts, Letts' creative roots are evident in his work. Raised in Durant, Oklahoma, he developed a passion for the arts, which led him to move to Dallas and begin his acting career. Letts' involvement in Jerry Flemmons' O Dammit, part of a new playwrights series at Southern Methodist University, marked the beginning of his trajectory as a playwright. In his early twenties, Letts moved to Chicago, joining the esteemed Steppenwolf and Famous Door companies, where he worked for over a decade. A founding member of Bang Bang Spontaneous Theater, he collaborated with notable talents such as Greg Kotis and Michael Shannon. Letts' successful play Killer Joe, written in 1991, premiered in Chicago and New York City, paving the way for his future success. His work continues to captivate audiences, solidifying his position as a prominent figure in American theatre.
