Thomas B. Costain is a renowned Canadian-American author, editor, and journalist. Born in Brantford, Ontario, he began writing at a young age, penning four novels before graduating from the Brantford Collegiate Institute. Although his early works were rejected, his writing career took off in 1902 when the Brantford Courier published one of his mystery stories, leading to a reporting position at the publication. Costain went on to become an editor at the Guelph Daily Mercury and later joined the Maclean Publishing Group, where he edited three trade journals and worked as a staff writer and editor for Maclean's magazine.
