Taylor Caldwell Books in Order

Taylor Caldwell, a prolific novelist and writer, is also known by the pen names Marcus Holland and Max Reiner. Born in Manchester, England, she emigrated to the United States with her family in 1907, where they faced significant challenges following her father's untimely death. Despite these difficulties, she began writing stories at the age of eight, producing her first novel, The Romance of Atlantis, at twelve, although it remained unpublished until 1975. Caldwell's determination to write persisted despite her father's disapproval and subsequent employment in a bindery, as well as ongoing health issues. She discarded and burned 140 unpublished manuscripts in 1947, as reported by TIME magazine. Throughout her life, Caldwell balanced her writing career with various professional endeavors, including service in the United States Navy Reserve, work as a court reporter, and roles in the United States Department of Justice. Her marriage to Marcus Reback in 1931, with whom she had a second child, Judith, in 1932, lasted 40 years until his death in 1971.
