Sunjeev Sahota is a British novelist making his mark on the literary world. Born in 1981 in Derby, Sahota spent his childhood in Chesterfield, with roots in the Punjab, where his paternal grandparents emigrated in 1966. After studying mathematics at Imperial College London, Sahota embarked on a marketing career with Aviva, a role he balanced with his burgeoning writing passion. Inspired by authors like Salman Rushdie, Arundhati Roy, and Kazuo Ishiguro, Sahota devoured novels in his late teens, sparking a lifelong love affair with storytelling. His debut, Ours are the Streets, was published in 2011, followed by The Year of the Runaways in 2015, a poignant exploration of the experiences of illegal immigrants in Britain. Sahota's work has earned him a spot on Granta's list of 20 best young British writers, solidifying his reputation as a powerful and thought-provoking voice in contemporary literature.
