Stacey Abrams is a renowned American politician, lawyer, author, and businesswoman who serves as the former minority leader of the Georgia General Assembly and state representative for the 89th House District. A dedicated Democrat, Abrams has made history as a leading contender in the 2018 Georgia gubernatorial election, positioning herself to become the first female governor of Georgia and the first black female governor in the United States. Abrams, one of six siblings, was born in Madison, Wisconsin, and raised in Gulfport, Mississippi, before relocating to Atlanta with her family. Her parents, Robert and Carolyn Abrams, pursued graduate studies and later became Methodist ministers. Abrams graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Spelman College in 1995. She went on to study public policy at the University of Texas at Austin's LBJ School of Public Affairs as a Harry S. Truman Scholar and earned her J.D. from Yale Law School.
