Shirley McKay is a Scottish writer and author. Born in Tynemouth, she currently resides in Fife with her family. McKay's writing career took off at a young age, winning the prestigious Young Observer playwriting competition at just fifteen, with her play performed at the esteemed Royal Court Theatre Upstairs. She pursued her passion for literature by studying English and Linguistics at the University of St Andrews, later advancing to postgraduate study in Romantic and seventeenth-century prose at Durham University. McKay's writing has garnered recognition, including a shortlisting for the CWA Debut Dagger. In addition to her literary endeavors, she works as a freelance proofreader, bringing her attention to detail to a variety of projects.
