Seishi Yokomizo is a renowned Japanese novelist celebrated for his contributions to the historical detective novel genre. Born in Kobe, Hyōgo, Yokomizo's passion for literature was ignited by his early fascination with detective stories. After graduating from Osaka Pharmaceutical College, he defied family expectations to pursue a career in writing, encouraged by the acclaimed author Edogawa Rampo. In 1926, Yokomizo joined the Hakubunkan publishing company and rose to become an editor-in-chief of several magazines. His debut novel, "Onibi" (1935), marked a significant milestone in his career, although its initial publication was marred by censorship. Yokomizo continued to produce notable works, including "Ningyo Sashichi torimonocho" (1938-1939), despite facing challenges during World War II. His dedication to his craft has cemented his status as a prominent figure in Japanese literature.
