After studying comparative literature at Smith College, where she earned a Bachelor's degree, and a year spent in Paris, she pursued various paths, including teaching English, living as an au pair in the Canary Islands, and working in international development in Miami. Her life took a significant turn when she met her husband, a Dutchman from Suriname, and they settled in the Netherlands, where she began crafting her first serious stories amidst raising her children. This period also saw her recognition as a writer with a finalist spot in the Romance Writers of America Golden Heart Contest in 1994. After years of perseverance, Ruth found her ideal writing haven in Maine's rugged coastline, where she honed her craft and nurtured her stories. Her writing journey mirrors her spiritual journey, guided by faith and a deep connection to her inner voice. As a devoted mother and educator, Ruth currently teaches Spanish to her children and a small group of elementary school students.
