Rosamunde Pilcher is a renowned British author, born on 22 September 1924 in Lelant, Cornwall, England. She is the daughter of Helen and Charles Scott, a British commander who was posted in Burma before her birth. Pilcher attended prestigious schools, including St. Clare's Polwithen and Howell's School Llandaff, before completing her education at Miss Kerr-Sanders' Secretarial College. She began writing at a young age, publishing her first short story at 18. During World War II, Pilcher served with the Women's Naval Service from 1943 to 1946. In 1946, she married war hero Graham Hope Pilcher, a jute industry executive, and they had four children. Her son, Robin Pilcher, is also a novelist. Rosamunde Pilcher's writing career spans over five decades, with her first book, a romance novel, published in 1949 under the pseudonym Jane Fraser. She later transitioned to writing under her married name and eventually her own name. Notable works include Coming Home, which won the Romantic Novel of the Year Award in 1996.
