Robin McKinley is a renowned author of fantasy and historical fiction, known for her captivating and imaginative storytelling. Born in Warren, Ohio, she spent her childhood moving frequently due to her father's service in the United States Navy, fueling her passion for reading and exploration. As she traveled, she associated memories with the books she read in different places, creating a lifelong connection with literature. McKinley's academic achievements include attending Gould Academy, Dickinson College, and graduating summa cum laude from Bowdoin College in 1975. Her writing career began at 26, with the publication of her debut novel, Beauty, in 1978, followed by numerous award-winning and critically acclaimed works. She has lived in various locations, including Maine, Massachusetts, New York City, and Hampshire, England, with her husband, fellow author Peter Dickinson, with whom she co-authored Water: Tales of Elemental Spirits in 2001.
