Robert Jordan is the renowned pen name of James Oliver Rigney, Jr., celebrated for his epic fantasy series, The Wheel of Time, which has captivated millions of readers worldwide. As a master storyteller, he also wrote under the pseudonyms Reagan O'Neal and Jackson O'Reilly. Born in Charleston, South Carolina, Jordan's life has been marked by a blend of adventure and intellectual pursuits. A decorated veteran, Jordan served two tours in Vietnam, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star, and two Vietnamese Gallantry Crosses for his bravery. After Vietnam, he attended The Citadel, where he graduated with a degree in physics, later working as a nuclear engineer for the United States Navy. As a prolific writer, Jordan began his literary journey in 1977, drawing inspiration from his love of history, and his diverse interests in hunting, fishing, sailing, and collecting pipes. Jordan's faith and family life were deeply important to him. He was a devout Episcopalian, receiving communion frequently, and lived with his wife, Harriet McDougal, a respected book editor, in a historic 1797 home.
