R. Scott Bakker is a novelist whose work is defined by the sprawling epic series known as the Second Apocalypse. Begun in the 1980s, this series has evolved significantly since its inception. Originally planned as a trilogy, with the first two books set to be The Prince of Nothing and The Aspect-Emperor, Bakker's vision expanded to incorporate a vast array of characters, themes, and ideas. The series now comprises two trilogies, with a possible third trilogy on the horizon. Bakker's magnum opus, The Prince of Nothing, was published between 2003 and 2006, chronicling the Holy War between the Inrithi kingdoms and the Fanim of the south.
