Patrick Gale is a celebrated English author, born on the Isle of Wight on 31 January 1962. As the youngest of four children, he was raised in a family that valued education and tradition, with his father serving as a prison governor. Gale's early years were marked by frequent moves, including stints in London and Winchester, where he attended Pilgrim's choir school and later Winchester College. He graduated from New College, Oxford in 1983 with an English degree. Gale's writing career has spanned decades, with his first two novels, The Aerodynamics of Pork and Ease, published in June 1986. Now, he resides in the far west of England with his husband, Aidan Hicks, where they tend to their farm, raise cattle, and nurture a remarkable garden on one of the country's windiest sites.
