Patricia C. Wrede is a prolific author known for her captivating fantasy novels. Born in Chicago, Illinois, she is the eldest of five children and began writing in seventh grade. After graduating from Carleton College in Minnesota, where she majored in Biology and avoided English courses, Wrede started working on her first novel, Shadow Magic, in 1974. Five years later, she completed the manuscript and embarked on her second book, solidifying her passion for writing. She received her M.B.A. from the University of Minnesota in 1977 and worked as a financial analyst and accountant for several years, eventually joining forces with a writers' group called "The Scribblies" in 1980. Wrede's debut novel sold to Ace Books in 1980 and was published in 1982. As her writing career flourished, she left her corporate job in 1985 to focus on her writing full-time.
