Olen Steinhauer is a prolific author whose experiences living in numerous countries have deeply influenced his writing. Born in Virginia, he has resided in various parts of the US, as well as abroad in Croatia, the Czech Republic, Italy, and Romania, where he received a Fulbright grant. The Tourist marks a departure from this sequence, initiating a trilogy of spy tales set in the post-9/11 world. The rights to The Tourist have been acquired by George Clooney's Smoke House Films, with the actor set to star in the adaptation.
