Born in Chicago, McMahon later pursued a degree in psychology from Stanford before relocating to Montana in 1971. His wife, Kim, plays a pivotal role in the state's literary scene, coordinating the annual Montana Festival Of The Book. McMahon's writing career spans multiple genres, with ten thrillers to his name, including the #1 New York Times bestseller, TOYS, co-authored with James Patterson.
