Monica Ali is a British writer of Bangladeshi origin. She is a prominent author known for her debut novel, Brick Lane, which was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize for Fiction in 2003. Recognized for her exceptional talent, Ali was voted Granta's Best of Young British Novelists on the basis of her unpublished manuscript. A dedicated and outspoken advocate for freedom of expression, she has publicly opposed the British government's efforts to introduce the Racial and Religious Hatred Act 2006.
