Michael McGarrity is a prolific author of national best-selling novels, whose career in writing began with the publication of Tularosa in 1996. He holds a BA with distinction in psychology and a master's degree in clinical social work, having earned a Ford Foundation Scholarship at the University of New Mexico as an undergraduate. As a distinguished honor graduate of the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy, McGarrity's extensive career in criminal justice spanned over twenty-five years, during which he created treatment programs for drug offenders, supervised outreach services for at-risk juveniles, and re-established mental health services for the Department of Corrections. He has also served as a Santa Fe County deputy sheriff, teaching courses at the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy and working in various roles, including lead investigator of the sex crimes unit. McGarrity has received numerous accolades, including the 2004 New Mexico Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts - Literature and the 2015 Frank Waters Exemplary Literary Achievement Award.
