Luke Rhinehart, a renowned author, operates under his pen name. Born in the United States to a father who was an engineer and a mother who served as a civil servant, he pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell University and a Master of Arts degree from Columbia University. Furthering his academic journey, he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy degree in psychology from Columbia University. Luke Rhinehart has been married to Ann since June 30, 1956, and is a father of three children. Throughout his career, he has taught various subjects, including Zen and Western literature, at the university level. Inspired by his early experiments with dice, he developed the concept that would become his debut novel, <i>The Dice Man</i>. First published in 1971 by Talmy Franklin in London, the novel marked the beginning of Rhinehart's writing career as a bestselling author.
