Lloyd Biggle Jr. is a distinguished American author, born in 1923 in Waterloo, Iowa. As a communications sergeant in the 102nd Infantry Division during World War II, he demonstrated courage and resilience, being wounded twice in the line of duty. The second wound, a shrapnel injury to his leg near the Elbe River at the war's end, left him with a lifelong disability. After the war, Biggle pursued higher education, earning an A.B. degree with High Distinction from Wayne State University and M.M. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Michigan. He taught at the University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University in the 1950s before embarking on a successful writing career, publishing his first professional novel, <i>All the Colors of Darkness</i>, in 1963.
