Lindsey Davis is a renowned historical novelist, born in Birmingham, England in 1949. She graduated with a degree in English literature from Oxford University's Lady Margaret Hall. Initially a civil servant for 13 years, Davis turned to writing after a romantic novel earned a runner-up spot for the 1985 Georgette Heyer Historical Novel Prize. She began writing romantic serials for the UK women's magazine Woman's Realm before transitioning to historical fiction. Her debut novel, featuring Roman detective Marcus Didius Falco, "The Silver Pigs," published in 1989, marked the beginning of her success as a writer of historical whodunnits. With 20 Falco novels and "The Course of Honour," Davis has won numerous literary awards and held the position of honorary president of the Classical Association from 1997 to 1998.
