With an impressive range of genres spanning traditional storytelling, critical analysis, poetry, and spoken word, she has demonstrated an uncommon ability to navigate the complexities of literary and social activism. Simpson has received numerous accolades for her work, including being named the inaugural RBC Charles Taylor Emerging Writer by Thomas King in 2014. Her short story "Treaties" earned her a National Magazine Award nomination in Geist 90. She is the author of three critically acclaimed books: Dancing on Our Turtle's Back, The Gift Is in the Making, and Islands of Decolonial Love. Her editorial work includes Lighting the Eighth Fire, This Is An Honour Song (co-edited with Kiera Ladner), and The Winter We Danced: Voice from the Past, the Future and the Idle No More Movement (Kino-nda-niimi collective).
