Laurie Loewenstein is a fifth-generation Midwesterner, born and raised in central and western Ohio. As a descendant of farmers, butchers, and salesmen, she draws inspiration from her roots. Holding a BA and MA in history, Loewenstein's academic background has shaped her storytelling. Her early career as a reporter, feature, and obituary writer for small daily newspapers honed her writing skills. In her fifties, Loewenstein pursued an MA in Creative Writing, launching a new chapter in her writing journey. Her debut novel, Unmentionables (2014), received a starred review from Library Journal and was selected as a Midwest Connections pick. Her latest release, Death of a Rainmaker (2018), kickstarts a mystery series set in the 1930s Dust Bowl. As an instructor at Wilkes University's Maslow Family Graduate Program in Creative Writing, Loewenstein co-teaches Research for Writers and coordinates the Writing Resource Center. She resides in Columbia, Maryland.
