He pursued a medical career, earning his medical degree from the University of Arizona and completing a residency in Orthopaedics at the University of Kansas. Dahners taught Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before retiring in 2017. In his free time, he explores his passion for science fiction, music, and art.
