Laura Zigman is a critically acclaimed author and publishing industry veteran. Born and raised in Newton, Massachusetts, she graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and the Radcliffe Publishing Procedures Course. After ten years working in book publishing in New York, where she served as a publicist for several prominent publishing houses, she transitioned to Washington, D.C. to work as a project manager for The Smithsonian Associates and a consultant for the anti-poverty non-profit Share Our Strength. Her debut novel, Animal Husbandry, became a national bestseller in 1998 and was followed by numerous international releases. The film adaptation, Someone Like You, starring Ashley Judd and Hugh Jackman, premiered in 2001. Her subsequent novels, Dating Big Bird and Her, solidified her reputation as a talented storyteller. Her latest novel, Piece of Work, explores her experiences in the publishing industry and has been optioned for film adaptation by Tom Hanks' production company, Playtone Pictures.
