Kate Klimo grew up amidst the rolling cornfields of Iowa, where the harsh winters sparked her vivid imagination. As a child, she'd often discover her backyard transformed into an unlikely sanctuary for the fish her ice-fishing father had stored in the snowdrifts, only to be resurrected in the spring thaw. This fantastical notion of fish swimming through snow-banked rivers instilled in her a lifelong passion for magical worlds. In her teenage years, Kate spent countless hours in the Stenson Memorial Library, devouring the works of C.S. Lewis, E. Nesbit, and George MacDonald alongside her closest friend Justine. This shared love of fantasy propelled her on a quest to uncover hidden portals to magical realms, hidden in the nooks of abandoned mansions, dusty five-and-dime stores, and the windswept cliffs of Long Island Sound. After over two decades of leading Random House Children's Books, Kate transitioned to a full-time author, penning the acclaimed middle-grade series The Dragon Keepers, The Dog Diaries, and The Centauriad, leaving an indelible mark on the world of children's literature.
