Jonathan Stroud is a renowned author of fantasy books for children and young adults. Born in St Albans, he spent his childhood developing a passion for reading, drawing, and writing, often escaping boredom through books and stories during his frequent hospital stays as a child. After studying English literature at the University of York, Stroud worked as an editor in London, where he honed his skills and discovered his own creative voice. His writing career flourished in the 1990s, culminating in the publication of his first novel, Buried Fire, in 1999. Stroud's magnum opus is the bestselling Bartimaeus Trilogy, which offers a fresh perspective on the magician class and enslaved demons through the sarcastic voice of djinni Bartimaeus. He currently resides in St Albans with his family, including his wife Gina, a children's book illustrator, and their two children.
