Jon Olav Fosse is a renowned Norwegian playwright, novelist, and poet born in Haugesund, who currently resides in Bergen. His literary career began in 1983 with the publication of the novel Raudt, svart, followed by the debut of his first play, Og aldri skal vi skiljast, in 1994. Fosse's prolific output encompasses novels, short stories, poetry, children's literature, essays, and plays, which have been translated into over forty languages. He is widely regarded as one of the world's leading contemporary playwrights. Fosse's accolades include being awarded the rank of chevalier of the Ordre national du Mérite of France in 2007, and ranking 83rd on The Daily Telegraph's list of the Top 100 living geniuses. Since 2011, he has been granted the esteemed Grotten, an honorary residence bestowed upon him by the King of Norway in recognition of his significant contributions to Norwegian arts and culture.
