John Masters Books in Order

John Masters is a renowned author and military veteran, born into a long line of service in the Indian Army. Educated at Wellington and Sandhurst, he graduated in 1933 and went on to serve with the 4th Prince of Wales's Own Gurkha Rifles, seeing action on the North-West Frontier. Rising through the ranks, he became the Adjutant of the 2nd battalion in 1939. During World War II, Masters served in Iraq, Syria, and Persia, attending the Indian Army Staff College at Quetta in 1942. His military career took a notable turn when he joined the Chindits, a special forces unit in Burma, where he commanded the main body of 111 Brigade under General "Joe" Lentaigne. Masters' experiences in the military have inspired his writing, which often explores the complexities of human nature and the challenges of war. His notable works include "Bugles and a Tiger" and "The Road Past Mandalay."
