John Bude is a British author, born in 1901, whose life took a trajectory from the stage to the page. As a boarder at Mill Hill School, he honed his interests in drama, later becoming stage manager for the Lena Ashwell Players and acting in productions at the Everyman Theatre in Hampstead. His writing skills, developed in the intervals of his theatrical pursuits, eventually led him to become a full-time writer. Bude's notable works feature two iconic series characters: Superintendent Meredith and Inspector Sherwood, in a collection of over 30 crime fiction novels. His writing career showcases a unique blend of theatrical flair and literary talent. After marrying his wife, Betty, in 1933, he settled in various locations, including Loose, Kent, and near Rye, East Sussex, where he pursued his passions for golf and painting.
