Joe Ide is a Japanese American author, born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, where he drew inspiration from the gritty realities of his neighborhood. Growing up amidst economic hardship and gang violence, his experiences shaped his perspective and writing style. Ide's fascination with Sherlock Holmes stories, particularly the Conan Doyle series, influenced his creation of IQ, a series of novels featuring a brilliant, yet unlicensed detective. After pursuing a graduate degree in education, Ide's diverse career path included teaching, corporate management, and directing an NGO that provided support services for abused women and children. He has also written screenplays for major studios. Ide currently resides in Santa Monica, California, with his wife and their Golden Retriever, Gusto.
