His eclectic writings, encompassing essays, short fiction, criticism, and journalism, have been widely published in prominent outlets such as <i>Details</i>, <i>Playboy</i>, <i>Newsweek</i>, <i>The Washington Post</i>, the <i>Los Angeles Times</i>, and <i>The Boston Globe</i>. Walter also ventures into screenwriting and co-authored the 1996 bestseller, <i>In Contempt</i>, with Christopher Darden.
