James Carlos Blake is a highly regarded American author of historical crime fiction, born in Mexico to a family that frequently relocated along the border and coast before settling in Texas at the age of six. A former army veteran, he went on to earn Master's degrees from the University of South Florida and Bowling Green State University, where he also taught before devoting himself to writing full-time in 1997. With his debut novel, The Pistoleer, published in 1995, Blake garnered widespread critical acclaim for its innovative narrative structure. Since then, he has written numerous acclaimed novels and a collection of short stories, largely centered on real-life figures from the American West. A resident of Arizona, Blake continues to craft compelling historical crime fiction.
