James Blish Books in Order

James Blish is an American author of fantasy and science fiction, renowned for his insightful literary criticism of the genre. As William Atheling Jr., he has written extensively on the subject. A member of the influential Futurians in the 1930s and 1940s, Blish's writing career flourished despite his early background in biology. He trained at Rutgers and Columbia University before serving as a medical technician in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following the war, Blish transitioned to a science editor role at Pfizer, eventually leaving to pursue writing full-time. He is credited with coining the term "gas giant" in his story "Solar Plexus." Blish's notable works include short story collections based on the classic TV series Star Trek, a feat he accomplished between 1967 and his passing in 1975.
