Jakob Arjouni, alias of Jakob Bothe, is a prolific German author and playwright. As a young writer, he burst onto the literary scene with his debut novel Happy Birthday, Türke! in 1985, published at the age of 20. He continued to hone his craft, writing his first play Die Garagen. Arjouni's breakthrough came with the publication of his crime novel Kayankaya, which was subsequently translated into 10 languages. His work has garnered critical acclaim, with notable awards including the Baden-Württembergischen Autorenpreis für das deutschsprachige Jugendtheater in 1987 for Nazim schiebt ab and the German Crime Fiction Prize in 1992 for One Man, One Murder. Throughout his illustrious career, Arjouni remained dedicated to his craft until his passing, aged 48, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer in Berlin.
