Ian C. Esslemont is an accomplished author, archaeologist, and scholar, born in 1962 in Winnipeg, Canada. He holds a degree in Creative Writing and has spent years studying and working in archaeology, with extensive travel throughout South East Asia. Having lived in Thailand and Japan, Esslemont now resides in Fairbanks, Alaska, with his family. As a co-creator of the Malazan world, alongside Steven Erikson, Esslemont brought this rich fictional universe to life in 1982 as a backdrop for role-playing games. He later collaborated with Erikson on a feature film script, 'Gardens of the Moon', which eventually evolved into the novel that kickstarted the Malazan Book of the Fallen series, a groundbreaking epic fantasy that has captivated readers worldwide.
