Geling Yan Books in Order

Geling Yan, a renowned Chinese author, was born in Shanghai, People's Republic of China. A multifaceted woman, she began her career as a dancer at 12 and later served in the People's Liberation Army during the Cultural Revolution, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Her distinguished military career was followed by a stint as a journalist during the Sino-Vietnamese War. Yan's literary journey began with the publication of her first novel in 1985, and she has since penned acclaimed works such as The Banquet Bug, The Lost Daughter of Happiness, and the story collection White Snake and Other Stories. Several of her novels have been adapted into films, including Xiu Xiu: The Sent-Down Girl and Siao Yu. A member of both the Hollywood Writer's Guild of America and the Writer's Association of China, Yan holds a bachelor's degree in literature from Wuhan University and a Master's in Fine Arts in Fiction Writing from Columbia College Chicago.
