Evelyn Waugh Books in Order
Evelyn Waugh is the son of Arthur Waugh, a respected editor and publisher. His experiences at Sherborne School, from which he was expelled, and later at Lancing College, shaped his perspective on English education. Waugh went on to Hertford College, Oxford, where he studied History and developed a passion for writing. Although he left Oxford without completing his degree, he pursued various careers, including teaching, cabinet making, and journalism. His first novel, "Decline and Fall," was published in 1928, followed by a series of critically acclaimed works, including "Vile Bodies" (1930), "Black Mischief" (1932), "A Handful of Dust" (1934), and "Scoop" (1938). Waugh's marriage to Audrey Herbert, whom he married in 1938, brought him stability and seven children, as well as a deepening commitment to Catholicism. His masterpiece, "Brideshead Revisited," published after World War II, solidified his reputation as a masterful storyteller.
