Evelyn Anthony is a renowned author of historical fiction and contemporary thrillers. She is known for her espionage-themed novels, which have captivated readers worldwide. Born Evelyn Ward Thomas, she began her writing career in historical fiction before transitioning to the thriller genre. Her life took an exciting turn when she met her future husband, Michael Ward-Thomas, on a double date in The Dorchester. They eloped and spent years traveling the world together, including a stint in Africa where Michael worked for the Consolidated African Selection Trust. The couple eventually settled in England, buying Horham Hall in 1968. However, they found the upkeep too costly and sold the property in 1976. It wasn't until 1982, after Evelyn's writing career took off, that she was able to purchase Horham Hall once again. Her writing success also led to her appointment as High Sheriff of Essex in 1994, a historic milestone as the first woman to hold the office in over 700 years.
