Elizabeth von Arnim Books in Order
Elizabeth, Countess Russell, is a British novelist and German noblewoman, known by her married name, Mary Annette Gräfin von Arnim. Born Mary Annette Beauchamp in Sydney, Australia, she was raised in England and married Count Henning August von Arnim, a Prussian aristocrat and descendant of King Friedrich Wilhelm I of Prussia, in 1891. Her marriage to von Arnim, whom she met on an Italian tour with her father, took her to Berlin and their family estate in Nassenheide, Pomerania. The couple's children were tutored by notable writers, including E. M. Forster and Hugh Walpole. Von Arnim launched her literary career in 1898 with the anonymous publication of Elizabeth and Her German Garden, a semi-autobiographical novel that became a huge success, reprinted 21 times in its first year. She went on to write 20 more books, all published under the banner of "By the author of Elizabeth and Her German Garden".
