Edward Carey is a versatile writer, illustrator, and playwright, born in North Walsham, Norfolk, England, amidst an April snowstorm. Following in his family's naval tradition, he attended Pangbourne Nautical College, where he showcased his theatrical talents in the school production of Showboat, playing the lead role of Captain Andy. Carey's passion for drama led him to the National Youth Theatre and a degree in drama at Hull University. As a playwright, he has created works for the National Theatre of Romania and the Vilnius Small State Theatre, Lithuania, which have been performed in England at the Young Vic Studio, Battersea Arts Centre, and the Royal Opera House Studio. His writing and illustrations often engage in a creative tug-of-war, with each influencing the other in unexpected ways. As a respected educator, he has taught creative writing and fairy tales at the Writers Workshop at the University of Iowa and the Michener Center and English Department at the University of Texas at Austin.
