Dudley Pope is a renowned naval historian and novelist, celebrated for his meticulous research and engaging storytelling. Born in Ashford, Kent, Pope's early life was marked by adventure and hardship. He joined the Home Guard at 14 and the Merchant Navy as a cadet at 16, only to be torpedoed and left adrift in a lifeboat at 17.
