Deon Meyer is a celebrated South African author, born in Paarl, Western Cape, in 1958. He grew up in Klerksdorp, Northwest Province, where he developed a passion for storytelling. After serving in the military and studying at Potchefstroom University, Meyer began his career as a reporter for Die Volksblad, a daily newspaper in Bloemfontein. He has since held various roles, including press liaison, advertising copywriter, creative director, web manager, and brand consultant. Meyer's writing career spans decades, with his first book penned at the age of 14. However, it wasn't until his early thirties that he started publishing short stories in South African magazines, a decision that allowed him to hone his craft. His breakthrough came with the publication of his first Afrikaans novel in 1994, which laid the groundwork for his subsequent international success. Translated into numerous languages, Meyer's novels have captivated readers worldwide, cementing his reputation as a masterful storyteller.
