Danzy Senna is a celebrated American novelist, born in Boston, Massachusetts, and raised in a family that championed civil rights activism. As the daughter of Afro-Mexican poet and author Carl Senna, and Irish-American writer Fanny Howe, she was immersed in the world of literature and activism from a young age. Senna's writing career took off after she graduated from Stanford University and earned her MFA from the University of California at Irvine, where she received several creative writing awards. Her debut novel, Caucasia, won numerous accolades, including the Book-Of-The-Month Stephen Crane Award for First Fiction and the Alex Award from the American Library Association. Her subsequent novels, including Symptomatic, continue to explore themes of identity through the perspectives of biracial protagonists.
