Chana Porter crafts provocative narratives that unearth the complexities of human existence. As an emerging playwright and speculative novelist, her work has been nurtured by esteemed institutions such as The Flea Theater, Playwrights Horizons, and Movement Research. Critics praise her "risky storytelling" as a bold voice in the literary landscape, akin to a lion's roar in a timid jungle. Porter is a MacDowell Fellow, a New Georges Audrey Resident, and Target Margin Artist-in-Residence, among other honors. She is currently writer-in-residence at The Catastrophic Theatre in Houston and co-founder of the Octavia Project, a free summer writing and STEM program for teenage girls and non-binary youth. Porter's courses on embodied creativity have been taught at several universities, and her debut novel, The Seep, is set to be released by Soho Press in 2020.
